External sources of funding
There are many different bursaries, grants and loans available for students wishing to go into further/higher education. Below is a list of some, and organisations which can further help you in your search.
The Educational Grants Advisory Service (EGAS)

The Educational Grants Advisory Service (EGAS) offers advice and guidance on funding for those studying in post-16 education in the UK.
EGAS operates nationally providing comprehensive advice and information on sources of funding available for post-16 education and training including loans, grants, benefits, access funds, hardship funds, bursaries and charitable trusts. Services are provided free to individual students.

City & Guilds

City & Guilds offer a small number of bursaries (educational grants) each year to people who would like the opportunity to study a City & Guilds qualification. Bursaries are offered twice a year following an interview process, for full details visit the City & Guilds website.
Professional and Career Development Loans

• Courses must be vocational (skills needed for an occupation, trade or profession); and can be by distance learning.
• Applicants must be aged 18 or over and can be employed, self-employed, unemployed or students.
• Loans can cover up to two years of learning (or up to three years if the course includes work experience).
• The loan can be between £300 and £8,000.
• The repayments for the loan would begin one month after the learning period is completed.
• The repayment period is between 6 and 60 months, and the interest rate is fixed at the start of the loan.
• In some cases repayments may be postponed after the learning period.
Over 186,000 loans have been made since the program began in 1988.

Turn2us

Although they do not deal directly with educational grants, Turn2us are a charity which help people who are experiencing financial hardship access information on all benefits and grants available to them, from both statutory and voluntary organisations. They can also help you to ascertain whether you are entitled to state benefits.
