What is the course about?

On this hands-on practical course, you will learn how to create a cut-out paper puppet and bring it to life in an effective stop motion animation sequence. You will learn the principals of animation focusing on pre-planning, timing and movement and how to film your animation using the professional stop motion application Dragon Frame. You will learn how to edit your animated sequence adding sound effects and music. At the end, you will have an exported a Quick time movie of your own short animation.

- Film your animation using Dragon Frame
- Export your final clip as a QuickTime movie.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is for beginners who have had no experience in animation or for those who might want to polish up their animation skills. The course is also invaluable for those who have done digital animation but would like to try a hands-on approach and explore new skills in actually making a puppet and physically animating it.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

These practical workshops will be taught by a professional animator with years of experience with cut out animation. You will be taught with guidance throughout, demonstrations and practical exercises. You will be shown professional sample clips and professional sample Cut-out Puppets as used in contemporary broadcast TV.

- You will be taught using Zoom for the live sessions with your tutor. You will receive an email 3hrs before your session starts with details of the live session link. Please be aware you will need to check your email address associated with your account within this window. Please amend and delete as suitable
- We use Google Classroom E-learning platform which will store all tasks/notes/resources/ demo videos You will need to login into our Google classroom before each sessions starts.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You will be able to use the latest professional software and equipment in our fully equipped animation studio.
You might wish to bring an external hard drive or USB stick to store your work.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

You may now wish to develop your digital animation skills with Animation with Adobe After Effects so you can learn how to composite and apply effects to your puppet animation.
