A short introduction to financial reporting analysis

What is the course about?

This course teaches the basics on how to read financial reports of a given company. It also provides an introductory insight into how analysts use these reports. The focus will be on the three financial statements:starting from the income statement, balance sheet and its components, to building the cash flow statement using the indirect method.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.

• Recognise the main items in the three statements
• Visualise how these statements are linked together
• Build a base to start performing valuation or credit analysis.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No previous knowledge is required, but this is a fast paced course. Some numerical understanding is needed. Basic accounting or financial knowledge would be helpful but not a must.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught by presentations, demonstrations, discussions and exercises. One-to-one guidance and support will be given throughout. Notes will be provided. Presentations using lecture slides. Q&A handout for homework (students can bring to class any challenging points). Case studies homework.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No other costs. Pen and paper will be helpful to take notes, and you may wish to bring a calculator to the class.
