Rhinoceros 3D is a powerful modelling program that is widely used in a range of industries such as design, architecture, jewellery and engineering. This introductory course offers a great opportunity for beginners to explore this versatile and key digital tool, whilst learning the essential skills needed to start modelling in Rhino.

What is the course about?

This course introduces you to the basics of Rhino through lectures, demonstrations and practical tips. You will be given an overview of the user interface, commands, creation of 2D and 3D geometry, and basic transformations. These topics will allow you to gain an understanding of the program and help you to start building your skills efficiently.

What will we cover?

- Introduction to Rhino and ist applications.
- User interface and navigation.
- Curve, surface and solid creations
- Layers and workflow management
- Commands and transformations
- Basic rendering
- Saving and exporting files.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Navigate around Rhino user interface comfortably.
- Set-up files and manage workflow.
- Have an overview of commands, editing and transformations.
- Understand the different style of curves, surfaces and solid creations.
- Save and export files for other applications.
- Produce simple renders.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is suited to beginners with little to no experience in Rhino, but you should know how to use a computer and move files around the system proficiently.

You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, and tasks online. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculation.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught using a range of techniques including lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, and tutorials. Digital notes will be provided. You might be invited to take part in group discussions.

Student preparation and homework outside class times are strongly encouraged. To fully participate in this class you will need:
- An email address
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer/laptop/tablet with a fully updated browser (preferably google chrome).
Please note that the course will be taught using Rhino 6 on a Windows computer system. Rhino offers a free trial of the full version of the program for 90 days. This can be downloaded from their website.
