What is the course about?

An intensive, challenging and fun encounter with the acting process, including voice, movement and acting
skills, suitable for beginners wanting total immersion or professionals wanting to refresh and refocus the core acting skills. This course is part one of a two week summer school and can be taken in conjunction with DS002 Summer school: improvers for the full experience in the week commencing 26 July.

What will we cover?

Through physical, experiential work the course will cover: spontaneity, presence, solo, ensemble and pair work,
approaching text and utilising voice and body.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Work constructively and creatively alone and with other people.
Improvise freely.
Work in a disciplined way with commitment and thought.
Approach text work with greater confidence
Perform with greater physical and vocal awareness and emotional accessibility.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is aimed at beginners and those with some experience wanting a refresher course.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen and respond to instructions and feedback.
• Take part in class discussions.
• Read a script and/or related text.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This is a practical, experiential course which demands full engagement and commitment to working alone and in
large and small groups.

As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please dress in loose clothing that you can move in freely .

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

For the full experience enrol onto DS002 Actor Summer School: improvers in the following week. Any improvers level course in the Autumn term.

Juliet Prague

Juliet Prague trained at the Drama Centre. Theatre is her first love; she was a founding member of Mkultra, a performance collective that presents work in the UK, Greece and Italy. Her extensive career as an actor includes 24 Hours at the Arnolfini (Bristol 2019), The Vagina Monologues (2019), Afterlives in Athens as part of the Hellenic Festival (2017), Circle of Blood shot in Niagara Falls by cult director Michael di Paolo (2014) and Square Rounds written and directed by Tony Harrison at the National Theatre. As director she has created theatre in unexpected places including art galleries and homeless communities. A skilled voiceover artist she has recorded many talking books and cartoons. She has also sung with Voicelab at the Southbank Centre. With her wide knowledge base including Stanislavski, the Method and Meisner Technique, Juliet has taught acting for over twenty years at City Lit, Regents University, Rose Bruford, Brunel, Royal College of Music, and has led training programmes for the corporate sector. She is also currently acting teacher at The Bridge Theatre Training Co.
