Amazon’s Career Choice program is an education benefit that empowers Amazon employees to learn new skills for career success at Amazon or elsewhere.

This Level 3 course is designed for Amazon Associates wishin to gain knowledge and skills of traditional practices used in UX/UI design industry sectors. On completion of the certificate, you would have the opportunity to join UX/UI design companies as an entry level UX/UI designer with some website creation/design experience or progress onto higher education.

What is this course about?
This course, now offered as part of the Amazon Career Development programme, introduces you to key concepts such as cognition and technology, idea and solution generation, accessibility guidelines, and information architecture.
You will gain knowledge of UX/UI methods including user testing, design guidelines, data gathering, personas, and prototyping using software such as Figma.
In addition to technical skills, the course places a strong emphasis on employability. You will learn how to build a professional portfolio, master interview techniques specific to the tech industry, and prepare effectively for job applications.
The course equips you for roles such as UX/UI designer, UX researcher, product manager, or content strategist.
Upon successful completion, you will receive an NCFE Level 3 Certificate in User Experience and User Interface, along with a completed portfolio piece.

What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Demonstrate a portfolio of UX/UI methodologies used to identify problems and research solutions.
- Create visual prototypes and test them with users.
- Explain the end-to-end design process, from concept to a production-ready website layout.
- Confidently navigate the job application process and articulate your design decisions in interviews.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is an accredited Level 3 course.
You should be able to follow spoken and written instructions and discuss your work in English. As the course is portfolio-based, your written English should be at least at GCSE Level 2 or an equivalent standard. You should also be a confident computer user with strong file-management skills.
Prior experience with design tools such as Figma or Adobe Creative Suite is helpful but not required.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
This course is delivered online only via Zoom, through two 3-hour evening sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:15pm to 9:15pm. Additionally, there are nine occasional Saturday sessions from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Please see the detailed course timetable here: Timetable for CUXQ100.
- Teaching: Includes tutor presentations, class discussions, and digital workshops.
- Self-Directed Learning: You are expected to dedicate at least 5 additional hours per week to work on your project and portfolio outside class time.
- Attendance: A minimum attendance of 90% is required.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
There are no additional costs—all course materials will be provided.
To participate, you will need:
- A reliable internet connection and an active email address.
- A computer, laptop, or tablet that can run the Google Chrome browser smoothly, with a working microphone and camera for online sessions.
- A notebook for recording user research and taking notes.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
With your new portfolio and interview training, you will be prepared to apply for internships or junior positions as a UX/UI designer or UX researcher. You may also choose to progress to higher education (this qualification has been allocated UCAS Tariff points) or further your technical skills by learning to code with AI.

As part of the application process we will invite you to an interview. Once you've been accepted onto the course, you will need to review and agree to the course terms and conditions.

Receive your confirmation code
Upon acceptance onto the course, we'll send you a confirmation code. You will need this code in order to request a payment from Amazon.

Request payment from Amazon
- Navigate to Career Choice in A to Z.
- Under "Your Resources," select "Explore educational centers and programs."
- Find City Lit and the course you've applied for.
- Click "Request tuition payment" to begin the payment request process.
- Once submitted, the payment request will be sent to us for approval. If approved, Amazon pays City Lit directly!
