What is the course about?

The course provides a basic understanding and overview of some major systems of the body, and how each of those systems interact with others. You'll gain knowledge of various anatomical terms and organs of the body associated with the systems covered. The classes are designed to appeal to students attending out of interest, as well as those wishing to progress onto advanced levels or a Level 3 diploma in massage or complementary therapies.

This course is the ideal pre-requisite for our ITEC Level 3 diploma in massage

What will we cover?

The course will give a brief overview of the structure and functions of some of the following systems:
- the skin
- the skeletal system including joints
- the muscular system
- the respiratory system
- the cardiovascular system
- the lymphatic system
- the digestive system
- the genitourinary system
- the endocrine system
- the nervous system

This course will give an insight into how various systems interact with each other and work co-dependently.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Explain the basic functions and structures of each body system
- Name and locate some major organs, bones, joints and muscles
- Learn how some systems interact and how the body works.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is introductory and is taught at an interest level. You should be able to write a short text, locate information from hand-outs, books and the internet; listen and identify main points and participate in discussions. It is essential for those wishing to apply for the ITEC Level 3 Diploma Massage or ITEC Level 3 Diploma Complementary Therapies. To gain access to a level 3 diploma, you will need to have English at a minimum of Level 1.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Lecture with diagrams, Power Point and Prezi Presentations; talks, discussion, question and answer sessions and practical exercises in the form of group and pairs activities. A small amount of home study will be required.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
