What is the course about?
This course aims to improve your intermediate level competence in all skills so that you can communicate
more effectively and confidently with Arabic speakers.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.
What will we cover?
Topics: weather, sport and hobbies, famous places and cities in Jordan: Amman, Irbid and Jerash city
Grammar: past verb with “ma” and “qad”, passive, plural, relative pronouns, form of the verbs, comparative and superlative, sentence order and using Arabic grammar terms.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Talk about weather and sports and hobbies.
- Ask for information and speak about traveling and visiting historical sites and places in Jordan.
- Ask questions in a formal/informal way
- Talk about your favourite sports, weather and hobbies
- Learn more about the history of Jordan
- Write and read short texts description and basic information
- Improve your speaking through using the grammar structures correctly.
- Develop strategies for coping with unfamiliar language or unexpected responses, such as asking for repetition or clarification.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students should have completed Arabic 3 upper: module 1, or studied Arabic for approximately 4 years recently or have developed an equivalent competence in the language.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc). It would also be useful if you had some knowledge of intermediate grammar terminology.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The course is based on the communicative approach:
- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate
Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

This course will be based on chapters 14-16 Arabiyyat Al -Naas book 1 by Munther Younis and Handa Al-Masri.
