What is the course about?
The course will also provide you with the necessary cultural awareness and competences that will help you to demonstrate respect and appreciation. It includes high-frequency vocabulary and phrases likely to be heard in the different regions where Arabic is spoken. In each workshop the material will differ and will focus on the particular dialect spoken in that country/ region.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.

Greetings and simple courtesies
Talking about your family
Making small talk
Asking for directions
At the grocer
A day in my life
Food and drinks.
At the pharmacy
Buying a ticket.
Some commonly used expressions.

By the end of this course you should be able to...
Understand the differences between Modern Standard Arabic and the Arabic spoken in different regions and be able to be able to use the dialect words and phrases in conversations.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Suitable if you have studied Arabic for a year or have an equivalent level.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The course is based on the communicative approach:
- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate
Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.
