What is the course about?
This qualification aims to prepare you for a role with in a voluntary organisation. Ideal if you are thinking or have just started a volunteer role. It aims to make you more aware of the role of a volunteer as well as identify and build on your existing skills to be a successful volunteer.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is a level 1 course.
You should already be able to follow verbal and written instructions, express ideas clearly in writing, through writing lists and short pieces of text, and pick out essential information from a variety of texts (including websites and handouts). You should be prepared to discuss ideas in small groups and take part in a short speaking exercise. There will be some homework that will include some research.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught in a group using discussion, presentation, computer search, role-play, quizzes and online videos. You can expect to have up to 6 hours a week homework.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
All materials are supplied for the course. You should bring a folder for your handouts and a pen.
