Former City Lit student governor, Anne Harrison

 

Anne Harrison, who has died aged 73, was a City Lit student for over a decade.

During her time at City Lit, Anne studied a variety of language courses including Welsh, French and German to an advanced level.

Anne became a City Lit Student Governor in 2009 as well as joining the Student Panel for 3 years, becoming its chair in 2010. During her time on the Student Panel she worked with a fundraising group and raised over £1,000 for the City Lit Student Bursary Fund.

Anne was a teacher, linguist, community organiser and social activist. Although she retired from teaching adults in 2005 she remained involved in education both at City Lit and in Uganda, where she taught at the Kyebambe Girls’ School in Fort Portal and co-founded the charity, Uganda Schools Trust.

Anne was able to enthuse students from diverse backgrounds with learning. She helped contribute to City Lit’s success through her involvement, dedication and enthusiasm.

Donations can be made to Anne’s charity Uganda Schools Trust to help fund a memorial project at one of the three schools in Fort Portal she supported during her life.
