Artists in Lockdown is a series of stories by City Lit art students sharing their experiences of creativity during the lockdown. In this post, we hear from artist, Franki Guilano.
"I have found lockdown really fruitful in creative terms. In some respects I've got access to a lot more of my materials at home than I would have at City Lit. So I have loads of paper and recycling as well as my beloved Bernina sewing machine and infinite supplies of fabric and textiles. I also had to top up on some 'dry' materials like graphite and coloured pencils which has taken my art in a different direction with lots more drawing than I've ever done before. And one day I just started playing with selfies on my scanner and came out of it with some really startling results.

I'm working with drawing a lot more than I ever would have done and that has led to a whole raft of new ideas that I'm exploring. We decided to keep our Zoom open all day on our Saturday classes and it's just nice to hear people tapping away or we sometimes have little chats with each other.

I've got a place on the Graduate Diploma at Chelsea College of Art. I can't wait. There's no question in my mind that the things I learnt and experimented with on the course put me in the position to be able to apply successfully. I am extremely excited!"
