Charity Beyond Words are running two art and colouring competitions for the upcoming Mental Wealth Festival, which takes place this month.
The competitions are designed to show how pictures can positively impact on mental health and wellbeing. The prize for the winners is an afternoon tea experience at the House of Lords with Beyond Words’ Founder and Chair, Professor Sheila the Baroness Hollins.
A celebration of all of the submitted art works will take place at 15:45 on Saturday 12th October to close this year’s Mental Wealth Festival. This will also include the announcement of the prize winners.

Competition Details
Competition 1 – Art Competition
The first competition asks aspiring and established artists to show what makes them happy at work or college by creating a story in three pictures. Artwork can be completed in any style or medium, including both digital and physical works.
Competition 2 – Colouring Competition
The second competition encourages everyone to get creative by colouring in pictures from one of Beyond Words’ popular stories about friendship and trying new things, Lucy Goes Riding, A Day at the Beach or Ginger is a Hero.

How Can I Enter the Competition?
You can download the entry forms and colouring pages from Beyond Words’ website or pick them up in person from our reception.
Entries must be sent to admin@booksbeyondwords.co.uk by 12pm Tuesday 8 October or taken in person to City Lit by 12pm on Saturday 12 October to qualify.
Beyond Words’ and The Mental Wealth Festival
A decade ago, Beyond Words co-founded the Mental Wealth Festival with City Lit. Back then, Baroness Sheila Hollins hit upon a great idea that mental wealth, like wealth in general, can change throughout your life. Sometimes it is poor or in deficit and other times it is in abundance.
For the last 10 years, City Lit have worked closely with Beyond Words, whilst putting on a selection of talks, panels, workshops and performances all in the name of restoring and supporting mental health.

2024 Mental Wealth Festival
For the Festival’s tenth anniversary, City Lit are delighted to be partnering with Beyond Words again.
As well as the art and colouring competitions, on Friday 11th October Baroness Sheila Hollins will be joined by Mike Nicholson to discuss ‘The Process of Authoring’. That same day, she and best-selling author Dr Kathryn Mannix will take to the stage to talk about ‘Living, Dying and the search for meaning’.
Beyond Words are also hosing their Afternoon Book Club at City Lit on Saturday 12th October. This involves reading books from their word-free picture series.
Other key events taking place during this year’s Festival include ‘An Evening with Grayson Perry’, and ‘In Conversations’ with Dr Tara Swart and Lindsay Nicholson.
The full programme of events can be found on our website.
