SURVEY: Changing Careers To Pursue Your Passion

Published: 11 January 2024

At City Lit, we want to help people to find where passion meets purpose in their careers. In an effort to understand how to do this, we carried out a job satisfaction survey.

Changing Careers

If you’re contemplating a career change, you’re not alone. A recent the survey revealed 30% of 25–34-year-olds are contemplating a career switch.

21% of those surveyed are also seeking to bridge their knowledge and skills gap. Recognising this, City Lit has made it its mission to be the gateway to new career avenues.

We interviewed Belinda Wava, who completed the Acting Diploma, Level 3 at City Lit to help her to switch careers to become an actress. Through the skills she gained and contacts she made on the course, she was able to get her first and second industry credits to help kickstart her new career.

Job Satisfaction

The survey also showed that 64% of respondents value both job satisfaction and income equally. We recognise the importance of striking this balance and are dedicated to providing courses that not only foster professional development but also increase overall wellbeing.

Over 70% of respondents also express dissatisfaction with their current jobs. We invite those seeking a positive change to explore our courses, designed to reignite passion and purpose in our students' professional lives.

We aim to provide you with the tools and knowledge to pursue fulfilling careers aligned with your aspirations.

Career Ambitions

Of those we surveyed, 10% of people who went to university say they regret it. Almost half of these people say it is due to their degree being unrelated to their career. At City Lit, we understand this. We have tailored courses to be both practical and valuable career-building experiences for people seeking a career change.

Akin Omobitan was in a similar position. He studied the Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling: integrative pathway at City Lit. He explained, "When I graduated from university, in my early twenties, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life.

"So having qualified now from City Lit, a little bit later in life, I have set up a private practice in counselling." The City Lit course gave him the practical skills to be able to be able to fulfill his dream.
