City Lit Artists On Show at Royal Academy’s 2024 Summer Exhibition

Published: 2 August 2024

A number of City Lit art tutors and students are displaying their artwork at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition this year.

This is a fantastic achievement. Roughly 1000 works are chosen for display at the exhibition, which takes place at Burlington House in Piccadilly each year. This is whittled down from over 16,000 entries.

Which City Lit artists are displaying their work?

A huge congratulations to City Lit student Caroline Griffiths. Her piece 'Puzzle Lady' was chosen this year by the Royal Academy to be featured as a part of their exhibition.

She follows in the footsteps of a number of great artists who learned their craft at City Lit, such as Charmiane Watkiss and Jacqui Ramrayka, who is currently an artist in residence at the V&A in London.

Caroline is also joined by three City Lit tutors who were also chosen for the Summer Exhibtion. Printmaking tutor Rosey Prince features for her work No Man’s Land. Annie Attridge, who runs a number of drawing classes at City Lit, was selected for her sculpture 'I Could Hold You for a Million Years'. Finally, tutor Thomas Gosebruch was chosen for his hand-printed piece 'NJ 2'.

Royal Academy Summer Exhibition

Starting all the way back in 1769, Royal Academy’s ‘Summer Exhibition’ is one of the largest and most popular contemporary art exhibitions in the world. Every year, the Exhibition runs from June through to August, featuring fantastic work from both established and emerging artists.

It has had a number of different coordinators throughout the years, including City Lit Fellow Sir Grayson Perry in 2018.

This year the exhibition runs from 18th June to 18th August. This means there’s still time to head down and see the artists' work yourself!
