As we progress towards completion of our amazing new reception and Gallery area, we’ll be taking possession of the space in a phased approach. Therefore the arrangements will be as follows:
From 16th September
Entrance
The main entrance will reopen and access will be through these doors.
Security
The Security desk will remain in the stairwell by the Goods Lift until October.
Reception
The Reception desk will remain in the Café until October.
The new Ground Floor layout is attached as Appendix 2.
Gallery
Our beautiful new Gallery space will open.
Lifts and Staircases
It might help you to think of the two ends of the building as the Yellow end and the Red end – denoted by red and yellow stair cases. When you are facing the building, Red is on the Right and yeLlow is on the Left.
The lifts will operate as follows:
As always, please avoid walking along the 4th Floor corridor as this can be disruptive to classes.
The staircases will operate as follows:
Emergency Evacuation
There are no changes to the current evacuation procedures. All building users are to evacuate as usual using the Red and Yellow Staircases to evacuate the building.
Yellow staircase will take building users to the fire exit that opens out on to Wild Court. Evac Chairs will be available to assist those unable to use stairs safely in an evacuation.
Red staircase will take building users to the fire exit that opens out on to Keeley Street. Evac Chairs will be available to assist those unable to use stairs safely in an evacuation.
Those who require assistance to evacuate must wait in the Refuge Points located on every floor. Refuge map included as Appendix 1.
Ground Floor Toilets
The Ground Floor toilets are closed for refurbishment. The closest alternative toilets are on floors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Keys and Media Equipment
The Key cabinet will be located at the temporary Security desk.
Media equipment can be collected and returned to the Reception desk in the Café.
Café
The Café will reopen on 16th September.
October
The Ground Floor space will reopen in October, when:
- The Reception Desk will move back to the Foyer area
- The Security Desk will move back to the Foyer area
- The Ground Floor toilets will reopen
- All lifts will serve all Floors

Glossary of Terms
Red Staircase The Red Staircase is the one at the end of the building closest to the Goods Lift and the Café. The walls of this staircase are painted red.
Yellow Staircase The Yellow Staircase is the one at the end of the building closest to the 3 x passenger lifts and the Theatre. The walls of this staircase are painted yellow.
Evac Chair A device manufactured for the smooth descent of stairways in the event of an emergency. All operators of the Evac Chair will be trained in its use.
