On Wednesday 3rd July, renowned contemporary artist and Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry discussed 'The Divides in British Society’ at Guildhall’s Livery Hall as part of the City Lit Perspectives series.

An avid supporter of City Lit, Grayson Perry is a recipient of the City Lit Lifetime Fellowship Award and is Patron of City Lit's lipreading campaign #HearMyLips.

Perry shone a light on the nation’s obsession with finding differentiators, however small, between groups. He also challenged the rigidity of thought of those who would class themselves as holding Liberal ideals.

City Lit Principal and Chief Executive Mark Malcomson said “We’re delighted to welcome Grayson back for our City Lit Perspectives series; he’s a cultural icon and national treasure.  His challenge to us all to reflect upon the reasons behind societal divides rather than simply labelling the outcome is something which really resonated with the audience this evening.”

All profits raised by this event have been deposited into City Lit’s Student Bursary. This fund allows City Lit to support students experiencing financial difficulties and ensures City Lit courses remain accessible to students from all backgrounds and levels of education.
