A former City Lit food journalism student has released her second cookbook.

Food writer and cookery teacher Sumayya Usmani’s latest book Mountain Berries & Desert Spice (publisher Frances Lincoln) will be released today, 6 April 2017, offering a modern take on recipes inspired by the cultural crossroads of the author’s native Pakistan.

It follows the success of her acclaimed debut, Summers Under the Tamarind Tree, which won the Best First Cookbook category in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. Mountain Berries & Desert Spice continues her journey exploring Pakistan’s often underrated culinary delights, including a closer look at her home country’s incredible desserts and sweets.

Sumayya studied at City Lit shortly before deciding to pursue her dream of a full time career in food writing, and will be returning to the college to talk to existing students in May about her experiences writing and publishing her two books (full details will be confirmed on our website in due course).

Mountain Berries & Desert Spice is now available for pre-order from all good bookshops, RRP £20.
