As our latest drama production - Red Flag, Blue Beard - is taking place this week, we caught up with City Lit student Eveline Reynolds-Boison to talk about her time at City Lit and the upcoming play...

Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself?

My name is Eveline Reynolds-Boison and although it may sound like a cliché, I have always wanted to be an actor. However, I decided to take the safe route in life and trained in the area of Human Resource Management. I really enjoyed the various roles I was able to be involved in, but my feelings for acting never disappeared and I knew that at sometime in my life, I would have to pursue this ambition.

What role does acting play in your life?

Acting means everything to me. I am now at a stage where my family commitments are beginning to change and I feel ready and hope to build a positive acting career. I am always looking for new courses to help me develop my acting skills as well as my professionalism and City Lit has helped with that.

Why did you choose City Lit and how has your time been on the course been so far?

I completed my Acting Diploma at City Lit in July 2020 and further develop my experience by being involved in the City Lit Theatre Company’s online adaptation of “I Made This For You”, directed by Gary Grant, in December 2020. Having just completed a few student film projects, the City Lit Theatre Company’s “Red Flag, Blue Beard” production directed by Deirdre Strath Clyde, really interested me. The course has been exciting, particularly as the cast have been involved in devising the play. I have loved every minute of it.

Can you tell us a little bit more about the upcoming show and your role?

The production looks at on the topic of domestic violence during the Coronavirus Pandemic Lockdows and concentrates on the relationships between a group of friends during this period. I play “Marion”, a nurse practitioner, mum to Sean. The character has been great to play – full of kindness, a little laughter, anger and love.

What are your plans for the future?

My plans for the future are to continue my journey towards a professional acting career. I believe this is the right time and I am not afraid anymore. I know I have to work hard, but I am determined to make it happen.

City Lit Theatre Company presents Red Flag, Blue Beard

City Lit Theatre Company are back in the John Lyon's theatre with a new play Red Flag, Blue Beard.

Created and devised with the company by Deirdre Strath Clyde the play addresses the corrosive effects of isolation and coercive control on relationships, family, and community in lockdown. Through the lens of current criminological theory, and the tale of Bluebeard, Red Flag, Blue Beard takes a piercing look at the controlling behaviour that leads to Intimate Partner Violence.

This crucial piece finds surprisingly humorous ways to let darker moments come to light.
