City Lit tutor Dr Christina Julios at the True Honour Awards 2017

City Lit tutor Dr Christina Julios has been recognised for her academic research into “honour”-based violence at the True Honour Awards 2017, run by IKWRO (the Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation).

The ceremony acknowledged a wide range of inspirational individuals working to eradicate "honour"-based violence across the board, and this year's recipient of the True Honour Awards 2017 was Gabriella Gillespie, child bride survivor and 'honour'-based violence activist.

Dr Julios received a certificate from the organisation in recognition of her academic contribution to the field, which includes a pioneering 2015 book on the subject, Forced Marriage and ‘Honour’ Killings in Britain: Private Lives, Community Crimes and Public Policy Perspectives. Dr Julios also taught the first ever educational course to focus on the UK’s approach towards “honour”-based violence at City Lit in 2016, and will be teaching a Global inequalities and consumer society course at City Lit later this summer.
