Visual Arts are thrilled to be at The London  Illustration Fair this year, bringing you three of our workshops over the weekend. The London Illustration Fair is an annual, artist-led illustration, print and graphic design fair, bringing artists and buyers together in a unique environment. The fair offers the chance for illustration lovers to come face to face with their favorite artists and discover amazing new artwork from emerging illustrators. There is something for every pocket from exclusive original pieces to prints and gifts for under ten pounds.

Come along, have a look at some of the great artists work and have a go at one of our workshops, we have Calligraphy, Japanese Woodcut & Create your own Comic Strip on offer. Taught by our very own City Lit Tutors.  Tickets to the fair range from £10 - £15, and our workshops are £20 - £30.

Cola Pen Calligraphy

Friday 30th November  - 17:00 – 19:00

Make your own writing  tool from a cola can and try your hand at creative calligraphy. You will  learn how to produce bold and dynamic letterforms and add illustrative elements to your work at this experimental calligraphy workshop. No experience necessary.

Japanese Woodcut

Sunday  2nd December  - 11:30 – 14:30

Japanese Woodcut or Mokuhanga is a versatile technique and differs from western (oil based ink) woodblock in that it is water based and non-toxic, using watercolour pigment, wood block, Japanese carving tools, rice paste and Japanese paper to create beautiful refined prints. It is done entirely by hand without a printing press and is therefore ideal for working at home. This workshop (3 hours long) will give you a hands on introduction. You will try out the cutting tools on practice pieces and using prepared blocks you will make your own Japanese Woodcut prints to take home.

Tutor: Carol Justin
