


Deaf Day - Saturday 27th April 2019
Deaf Day has become one of the biggest events in the deaf community calendar with deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing people of every age from across the UK coming to City Lit to socialise and celebrate deaf issues.
Come and join us on Saturday 27 April, we have a great range of exhibition stands, BSL interpreted taster courses and workshops taking place throughout the day as well as a crèche for the kids.

Gentle Yoga

Beginners are welcome and posture adaptations are provided for lesser able students. Stretch, relax and feel good! This taster offers both an introduction to yoga and a gentle way of practice. Tutor: Sarah Scott (Deaf)
Aromatherapy

Explore the beautiful smells and healing qualities of essential oils. Choose your favourite oils to blend and create your own hand cream or body lotion. Tutor: Farrah Idris
Nutrition

Taught by a personal trainer who is a CODA and interpreter herself, you'll discover the impact of certain foods on the heart and your health and how to improve these through good nutrition. Tutor: Grace Buckle
Hand Massage

Learn how to give and receive a therapeutic and relaxing massage. Learn to massage the hand, wrist and lower arm. Use a selection of carrier oils eg. sweet almond, apricot kernel and avocado, to suit your skin type.

Visual Arts Tasters

Ceramics: painting and mark making on clay
11.45 - 1.45pm, room 307
A ceramics class exploring the clay surface. You will have the opportunity to roll out slabs of clay and apply decoration in a variety of ways. This will include painting and sponging on coloured slip, and using handheld tools to make marks in the clay creating pattern and imagery. Tutor: Lauren Ilsley
Laser cut a product in plastic
2.30 - 4.30pm, room DR3 (fourth floor)
Spend some time playing with Adobe Illustrator in our bespoke digital and design lab. Learn some basic steps to customise an existing template using the drawing and image trace tool. Send your file to be cut on our laser cutter and leave with a simple piece of jewellery or keyring to take away. Tutors: Clark Keatley and Emilia Netto
Colour sketching with soft pastels
2.00 - 4.00pm, room 306
Discover how to create pastel sketches by experimenting with techniques such as blending and overlaying and colour mixing. Through short practical exercises, you will practice mark making and drawing to create different visual effects. Tutor: Ro Sylvester
