Happy Bastille Day: French-themed events this weekend in London

Story added 14th Jul 2017

A guide to French-themed events happening this weekend in London...

The 14th July is France’s national holiday, commemorating the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, and the unity of the French people at the Fête de la Fédération on 14 July 1790. It’s marked by a series of colourful celebrations in France, including a spectacular fireworks display from the Eiffel Tower in Paris and a military parade on the Champs-Élysées.

There are a number of celebrations taking place in London today and across the weekend to mark the occasion including Pop Brixton, which will host a French market in the main square, selling French goods, as well as live music and DJs. A little more centrally, Parisian bands will be bringing a French flavour to Borough Market, with plenty of delicious French cuisine to try.

Finally, the Evening Standard have provided a great round-up of all the cafes and restaurants offering Bastille-themed menus over the weekend – so there’s no excuse not to paint the capital blue, white and red…
