Happy hygge! Win a New Year surprise

Story added 2nd Dec 2016

Winter is here and 2016 is finally drawing to a close. After what has been a tumultuous year, the need to sit back, relax and enjoy the small things in life has never been more important. Hygge (pronounced as hoo-ga), the much written about Danish lifestyle phenomena, could be just what’s needed to help you embrace the best this season has to offer. Roughly translating as ‘cosiness’, hygge encompasses everything from creating more opportunities for togetherness and softening your space with candle light (yes, even in the office!) to enjoying making crafts and life’s simple pleasures. And of course, making and enjoying food together features heavily. Sounds a lot like eating your own body weight in mince pies and a family game of Christmas Monopoly!

To help us share our hygge moments, follow us on Instagram and post your favourite image or comment that sums up how you will be enjoying the season and taking pleasure from simple things. Don't forget to include #citylit. The best image or insight will win a free course in January to get your new year off to the best start. Terms and conditions apply*.

Our top picks for courses this winter at City Lit? Try one of our yoga or meditation courses or get crafty with knitting or sewing. And don’t forget that hygge can also be found in the great outdoors, so join us for one of our London walks and make the most of this winter.
