What is the course about?

The course aims to refresh your intermediate Latin by translating selected passages from Suetonius’ Lives of the Caesars.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

We will translate selected passages from Suetonius’ Lives of the Caesars and will revise the main structures of the Latin language through grammar exercises. Please contact the tutor through the Classics department 10-7 days before the start of the course in order to obtain the material necessary for the first class. Copies will also be made available in class on the day of the first lesson.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- translate passages from Suetonius’ work;
- analyse and understand the main structures of the Latin language.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is suitable for students who have been studying Latin at City Lit for at least 3 years, or studied
Latin up to GCSE (or equivalent) at school and would like to refresh their "rusty" knowledge.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Whole class work. Translating original passages in Latin and doing grammar exercises, tutor posing questions and answering questions raised by the students. Students should – if possible – prepare a Latin passage (provided by the tutor)
before each class.
.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Handouts with the Latin passages will be provided during each lesson. Bring pen and paper.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Ask the tutor for the most suitable class.
