What is the course about?
This is an introductory course about the mental health of children and young people aged 5-18.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.
What will we cover?
The topics covered include:
The concept of mental health
Risk factors which may affect the mental health of children and young people
Behaviour associated with mental health concerns
Person centred approaches to supporting children and young people with mental health concerns.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
By the end of the course you should have an understanding of different types of mental health concerns, factors that may affect children and young people's mental health and what impact this may have on their lives. You will also learn about how to support children and young people and the legislation and organisations to support them.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is an unaccredited introductory course. You will need access to the internet and a device that allows you to access google classroom, zoom and word processing software.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
A variety of teaching methods will be used, including presentations, group work, discussions, role play and videos. You may be asked to carry out some extra reading or homework.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You will need a pen and note pad.
