Anna Burns

Award-winning author

Anna Burns is a former student at City Lit. She studied fiction writing at City Lit and attended singing and dancing classes. The Belfast-born writer is an award-winning author and wrote the three novels: No Bones, Little Constructions and Milkman. Milkman won the Man Booker Prize 2018, the 2019 Orwell Prize for political fiction and the International Dublin Literary Award in 2020, and was shortlisted for both the Women’s Prize and the Rathbones Folio Prize.

I'm thrilled and honoured to be offered a City Lit Fellowship Award. I gained so much during the time I attended classes at Keeley Street. I spent a happy time there, mainly singing and dancing and - most of all - writing. And I thank the staff, the tutors and the building itself for the wonderful opportunities and benefits I received during my time there
