What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students whose first language is not English will need to be fully competent in speaking, reading and writing.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Speak English fluently.
• Read and respond to a variety of text.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take notes.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The course will comprise of practical exercises, role play and observation, with opportunity for group feedback and evaluation. There will be experiential activities, including individual, pair and small group exercises. The programme aims to build on the individual's skills, applying them to both social and work situations. The course will be delivered in the college.
As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

VOICE & SPEECH: Having trained at LAMDA (1981-1984) and having worked in all media (radio, TV, theatre, film) for over 40 years, Danielle has taught the Voice module of ‘CL Foundation Acting’ course since 1995. She continues this with as much enthusiasm as ever, and also teaches First Folio Shakespeare, Technical Voice, Communication Skills, English Pronunciation and Vocal Anatomy. FLAMENCO: Danielle trained in Classical Ballet, Tap and Jive, and was drawn to flamenco with all itsexpressive power. She has taught Flamenco at CL since 1999, and her company Flamenco Con Gusto offers both novice and experienced dancers the chance to perform alongside her in public while supported by seasoned professional flamenco guitarists and singers. DIRECTING: Danielle has written, directed and choreographed ‘Flamenco Musical Dramas’: integrating actors’ performances with Flamenco dance, music & song. Such productions include • LA MANADA (WAF May 2019) City Lit Theatre Company’s adaptations of Lorca’s plays: • SPIRITS WITHIN (aka The House of Bernarda Alba', July 2013 and July 2023) • YERMA FLAMENCA (Spring 2020) and a project combining Shakespeare and Flamenco ROMERA Y JULIETA (June 24)

Jonny has extensive experience as a voice practitioner and acting coach as well as being a professional actor, singer and musician. He trained as an actor at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and has appeared in many touring and West End productions including Blood Brothers, The Buddy Holly Story and We Will Rock You, as well as many stage plays, commercials and films. Jonny also holds an MA in Voice Studies from Central, where he was awarded a Distinction and has taught voice, accents and singing at drama schools and actor training programmes including Central, University of West London, Fourth Monkey and City Academy. He teaches in both academic and corporate environments and his areas of expertise include public speaking, presentation skills, accent training and non-verbal communication. His teaching style aims to help students find the true potential of their voice as an expression of their personality and to help them gain more vocal impact, and he is informed by Estill method. Jonny has a strong focus on exploring the voice through improvisation and creativity along with building strong technical ability and developing confidence in speaking.

Stephanie Lunn is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, and has an MSc in Strategic HR from University of Hull and a Postgraduate Certificate in Coaching form Birkbeck. She was a UK and Global HR Director and Business Partner in media and professional services companies, including Fleishman-Hillard, Agency.Com; Yahoo!, Cake and MPC before founding BluJacket Human Resources Consultancy. She has been teaching presentation skills at City Lit for many years, returning in 2016 after a break to bring up her daughter.

Lloyd Wylde is a former actor and now Voice Coach trained at LAMDA and at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. She has worked for the Education Department at the National Theatre, Historic Palaces, Wellcome Trust and Soho Theatre, at several drama schools, and for the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as independent work. At City Lit she has taught Actor's Voice: beginners and improvers, Communicate with confidence through voice and body language, Self-presentation skills for business people (with Nikki Kelly), Use your voice assertively, and on the Foundation Drama and Acting Diploma courses. Having worked at City Lit since 2015, Lloyd enjoys the diverse range of students that come to City Lit keen to learn. She aims to help all students achieve their potential, find and harness the power of their voice, all within a safe and fun environment. Voice is in the body and is an expression of your personality and presence. Lloyd aims to help you find out what your strength is and help yourself counter the things that might get in the way.
