What is the course about?
This short course introduces you to how artists use collage and mixed media and how you can explore and experiment with different techniques through a series of practical exercises, to create complete pieces of work or studies that can be used for further development.
What will we cover?
- Identify artists working with collage and the techniques used
- Create work using a variety of collage techniques
- Create mixed media work
- Incorporate a more explorative, open-minded approach to your own artistic practice
- Gain confidence to progress to further study and make an informed decision when choosing a higher level collage and mixed media course.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
We will look at ideas around form, space, scale and juxtaposition whilst working with assemblage, collage and decollage, working with found imagery and objects alongside your own mark-making.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The course is suitable for beginners and artists looking to experiment with new techniques.
Bring an open mind and sense of adventure.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Presentations, demonstrations, group discussion and individual tuition. You will work individually and in groups. Come with an open mind and a willingness to experiment and to collaborate with others.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
PLEASE BRING A CAMERA WITH YOU TO EVERY SESSION.
Basic materials will be provided and your tutor will advise you on what to bring in from the mixed media cupboards of home.
This will include: newspapers, magazines, unusual papers and materials, found objects and so forth.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
This introductory course may inspire you to develop your work in this area by enrolling onto 'Contemporary collage projects' or 'Collage and mixed media' courses.
