Time: 14:00 - 17:00
Location: KS - Keeley Street

Dive into 3D digital modelling in this introductory course. You will learn how to create and animate digital 3D models using 4D Cinema Lite, the 3D software that comes free with Adobe After Effects CC. Great for your animation or film making work and showreel.

What is the course about?

This short course will introduce you to what is possible with Cinema 4D lite, a stripped down, but very versatile version of the widely used and powerful Cinema 4D 3D animation software that comes free as part of After Effects Creative Cloud (CC) edition.
The course is ideally suited to those who already have some familiarity with After Effects CC and want to add 3D elements to their 2D work. It also suits those interested in learning the basics of 3D digital modelling and animation and who want a primer for the full version of Cinema 4D, or to learn the basic principles of 3D Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) to apply to other 3D software.

What will we cover?

-The layout of the Cinema 4D lite interface, and the 3D animation workflow
-Creating primitive objects, and adding colours and textures
-Basic animation of objects
-Simple lighting of a 3D scene
-Creating a movie from your finished scene.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

-Navigate the main menus and functions of Cinema 4D lite to create a simple 3D animation
-Create and manipulate primitive 3D objects
-Add basic materials and textures to 3D objects
-Create basic animations of your objects using keyframes
-Add lights and a camera to a 3D scene
-Output your finished scene through After Effects.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a beginners’ course to the subject of 3D modelling and animation with Cinema 4D Lite. You will be expected to have a basic knowledge of After effects and be able to animate transformations using keyframes and work across layers.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught with workshops, short lectures, practical exercises, tutorials and handouts. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Digital arts, Graphics & Illustration and Photography.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

The latest professional equipment and software are available for your use throughout the course. It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to.) CDs/DVDs are available. You may wish to bring a notebook and pen.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

You can develop your animation skills further with VK109 Advanced Adobe After Effects. City Lit offer a range of courses in 2D and 3D Animation, Adobe Animate, Adobe After Effects, Character animation, editing, sound, illustration, cartooning, storyboarding and adobe Photoshop to enhance your animation practice.
