Curious about art history? Join us for this taster session where we explore different ways into visual art and its histories, from the ancient to the contemporary.

This taster of forthcoming film courses at City Lit in 2025 offers you the chance to think about which ones to take while also providing an opportunity to explore some of the key areas in film studies more generally.



Learn how to evaluate and discuss films while enjoying a working example of a City Lit film studies class.



We will view clips from a wide variety of films, exploring themes and technique in British, European and modern American cinema. There will be a chance to review term two film courses at City Lit (January - July 2025).

Watercolour has a rich tradition - this course will explore the more experimental ways of using this pleasurable medium and will present new possibilities for producing exciting new work with mixed media. Make inventive combinations of media to draw from your own found imagery, photographs and sketches.

Do you want to improve your communication skills and become more confident speaking, listening, reading and writing English? This course will help you develop all your English language skills so you can act confidently in the most important everyday situations inside and outside work. You will become a skilled communicator when writing, using digital resources and in face-to-face interactions. You will develop your active listening skills so you can understand and empathise better. You will work on how to express yourself when speaking in different situations. You will practise your reading so you can see the whole picture and find details, make effective decisions about what you read, and prioritise matters. By the end of this three-term programme, you will be a competent speaker, listener, reader and writer both at work and home and ready to do exams such as Functional Skills Level 2.

Are you new to yoga? This beginners' class offers a chance to develop and improve your body and breath awareness, posture, strength and flexibility, and practise relaxation techniques to help you release tension.



This course is delivered in-person at City Lit.

The Courtauld collection includes paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and decorative arts, ranging from the medieval period to the present day. This two-part course is an opportunity to explore an outstanding collection which includes one of the richest holdings of early Italian art in Britain alongside Impressionist and Post-Impressionist gems such as Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear.

Develop and improve your upper intermediate French on this communicative course. The emphasis will be on developing your speaking and listening skills and on acquiring a greater understanding of French grammar and fluency.

How did our current system of Western staff notation develop and how have manuscripts, printed scores and software all contributed to its versatility? Suitable for those who have at least basic notation-reading skills. Break week: 17 Feb 2025.
