Are you interested in art and want to get more out of looking at art and exhibitions? Want to know what an art historian does? Develop your interpretative skills by exploring at how art is made and what social and cultural factors construct our understanding of it.

Art history is much more than decoding secrets and symbols. It is about critical thinking and empathy, understanding how an artwork reflects an artist’s interpretation of their world, and what it says to you about our world now. This course is designed to build your confidence in understanding visual art of the Western tradition. It is designed for both the absolute beginner and those with some existing art historical knowledge.

A sketchbook is a great place to try things out, make mistakes and take risks - all in the nature of experimentation. An introduction to exploring creative mixed-media, drawing and mark-making techniques with confidence which can build personal ideas for further development.
Suitable for beginners as well as those with some previous drawing experience who would like to start using a sketchbook.

Break the mould - try your hand at the techniques of mould making and casting as practised by sculptors, prop makers and designers. Under the guidance of highly experienced industry professional in our fully equipped sculpture studio, explore making plaster and rubber moulds. Then learn how to cast from them in plaster of Paris and cement.

Explore the three dimensional possibilities of print. This course will encourage you to develop your initial ideas through experiments with printmaking techniques and bookbinding structures to create an artist’s book. Some printmaking and/or bookbinding experience may be beneficial but not essential.

Exhibiting your photography will support you in developing new ways and methods in exhibition techniques. Working with a physical gallery space as a creative brief, you will have the opportunity to propose new solutions and ways of engaging an audience in phtotogrpahic displays. Discuss and learn the history of photography exhibitions with key references and contemporary photographers. Get expert guidance to every aspect of exhibiting, from how to approach galleries to budgeting, hanging and marketing - giving you real confidence to stage your own show.
