What is the course about?

This course is the perfect follow-on course for learners who have taken our introductory Affinity Photo 2 course, or for anyone who already has a good grounding in Affinity Photo 2. As well as revising and refreshing existing knowledge, you will learn new, slightly more advanced skills and practise how to analyse and solve retouching problems and apply these solutions across different themes and styles of photography.

What will we cover?

- Review of user tools and controls
- Revision of techniques for defining, refining, and editing selections
- Establishing a workflow and creating problem-solving plans for more efficient and effective final image results
- Setting optimal image resolution and simultaneous multiple image exports
- Advanced layer use and blending modes
- Using masks, tone mapping and gradients
- Batch image export to simultaneously create multiple image outputs for different usages.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Analyse and plan work-flows for efficient retouching processes
- Use Affinity Photo 2 to optimise and export your images for web and print
- Create complete multi-image composites, using layers, and blending modes
- Confidently use masks, tone mapping and gradients
- Optimise and adjust images for maximum visual effect.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is ideal for those who have completed our ‘Affinity Photo 2’ course - but you can join us without having done so, as long as you have worked with the programme and have good basic knowledge of its controls and tools.
You'll need to be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be happy using numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught in a supportive group environment, through demonstrations, illustrated lectures, practical exercises, and individual assistance. You will regularly receive and be invited to contribute to positive critical feedback on your own and each other's photographs.
Student preparation and homework outside class times is strongly encouraged.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no extra costs. You will be supplied with images to work with, but ideally you should have easy access to your own images, to use during the course.
Please bring a notebook to help you to record in-class hints and tips which may not be part of the supplied handouts.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

You can develop your interest in other photographic subjects through a range of creative and practical photography courses at City Lit, everything from wildlife to fashion photography to starting your own photography business and more. Browse the full list to get inspired.
