What is the course about?

The course aims to provide an introduction to critical thinking skills and important related topics. It links these skills to scenarios from daily life and aims to enhance participants’ skills and develop their ability to handle claims and beliefs with a critical mind, using appropriate methodologies.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

We cover language and meaning, arguments identification and evaluation, informal fallacies, inductive argument and cognitive bias.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...


1. Identify and evaluate arguments in various contexts.
2. Identify and analyse fallacies.
3. Reflect on the use of language
4. develop self-reflection and metacognition capacity.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is an introductory course suitable for those who have no previous knowledge or for those who may have a little general knowledge or know about thinking. You just need to have an open mind.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course will be delivered in an interactive lecture style, with a lot of exercises and real-life scenarios to practise. There will a google classroom for reading tasks and discussion.
