Applied arts

Advanced applied arts is home to all advanced courses in craft, 2D and 3D design specialisms, media and communications, and related subjects. This rich mix of subjects encompasses courses offering a wide range of creative practices, approaches and methods across several disciplines, from traditional craft techniques and hand skills that are hundreds or even thousands of years old, to contemporary, web- and media-based experimental work in the field of visual communications, made using the latest state of the art hardware and software, for dissemination in print, online, broadcast, or via social media.

All our courses in the area of advanced applied arts are taught by professional creative practitioners, with extensive experience in the spheres of commercial design and craft-based disciplines, and many of whom enjoy international reputation within their specialism. All our applied arts courses culminate in a public exhibition.

With small group sizes, well-equipped workshops and an online learning environment supporting every course, there is a strong emphasis on group learning, engagement and debate, and on peer feedback and support. Alongside a solid grounding in historical and contemporary contexts, and a range of cultural references and perspectives, these courses offer the best possible environment and experience to develop your advanced creative practice.
