Constructed Textiles

Want to learn how to put fibres, yarn and threads together to make beautiful textiles? We have a range of short courses in knit, crochet, weave and felt that will teach you how to create your own textile structures to create garments, pieces for the home or art textiles.

Our beginner’s courses introduce you to the basic technical skills of these processes. Tutors ensure you have grasped the basics before moving on to more complex techniques. Our advanced courses are designed for those who already have the basics mastered and help you realise personal projects experimenting with creative approaches and unexpected materials.

Constructed textiles tutors at City Lit are all practising makers and artists, producing current content for magazines and books, exhibiting and carrying out residencies alongside their teaching practice. They bring their professional experience to their teaching, enhancing their wealth of technical knowledge and enriching your learning experience.

We provide a starter pack of materials for all courses, and encourage learners to bring their own yarns/fibres and scrap fabric with which to experiment. Please read the full course outline to see what is provided and what you might need to bring along.
