Our range of part-time, weekend and evening art and design classes are taught by successful artists and practitioners to ensure you get the skills, knowledge and experience you want and deserve. From experimental painting and drawing to contemporary jewellery making, there is sure to be a course for you. Study from 1 day to 2 years, whether you are a complete beginner or a practising artist preparing for an MA. Our courses are designed with you in mind, so you get to spend more time doing what you love.

  1. Foundation diploma in art and design

    The UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at City Lit is an exciting and challenging multi-disciplinary art, design, craft and media programme. It is designed to give you the best possible introduction to a wide range of materials, techniques and processes, and to support you in identifying and developing your creative interests and thinking. Validated by the University of the Arts London Awarding Body, it is an internationally recognised qualification with a UCAS tariff that enables you to apply directly to University.



    The course fee is £5421, plus an upfront fee of £100 payable at the time of your enrolment. If you are unable to pay the course fees, you can choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to help cover the course fee, repayable after the course ends. A deposit of £200 is also payable to secure your place (refundable after you complete the course).     An exciting chance to learn from professional practitioners of contemporary interior design and decoration, and to build an informed, creative, and professional portfolio invaluable for gaining commissions. This intensive practical course takes you through every step of the professional Interior Design process from negotiating briefs with clients, to creating accurate and engaging plans in 2D and 3D and developing and presenting your ideas professionally. Suitable for beginners and for those who wish to revise and develop their skills, this course offers an excellent opportunity for enhancing your home, gaining entry onto higher level courses or for entry into the workplace.



    We offer taster courses in creating plans using Computer Aided Design skills in this course but you are recommended to extend and enhance your Computer Aided Design skills in the third term by enrolling on our VF488 Visualising your drawings in 3D using CAD which revises and develops skills in project presentation gained during term one and two.

  7. City Lit Basketry

    Learn a wide variety of basketry techniques: stake and strand, plaiting, twining and coiling, in materials such as willow, cane, rush and other, less traditional ones. On successful completion of this two-year course, following an exhibition of some of your work, you will receive a City Lit certificate in basketry. Suitable for beginners, though some craft experience is expected. Payment plans will be available.

  11. City Lit fine art: year 1

    Build an individual fine art practice by exploring painting, drawing, sculpture, print, digital media and contextual studies, across a series of structured projects in live on-line and studio based classes. Weekly on-line participation from home (or your own workspace) is combined with fortnightly attendance at the City Lit studios. Regular group discussions and tutorials will help you adopt an independent and experimental approach to your work.You will be expected to keep up with current art practice and exhibitions, on-line and/or in your locality.







    The course can be taken for personal creative development, or act as a bridge between adult short courses and entry to undergraduate and postgraduate Fine Art courses. Basic materials are provided for working in the city Lit studios, but you may be required to source your own specialist materials, depending on your choices. Each term will include one additional off-site gallery visit or external activity, dates subject to opportunites.

    It is ideal for anyone who has already completed our City Lit graphics course, and for anyone wishing to build a more extensive and professional portfolio of graphics work, whilst developing a deeper understanding of the connection between text, image, message and media.

  13. Advanced print and media

    This advanced course explores how printmaking is used by contemporary artists across a range of media. Over the course of 30 weeks you will develop a portfolio of work using both traditional and digital print techniques working both within the print workshop and the digital lab. The course culminates with a public exhibition of work, and the production of a print publication. As you acquire advanced printmaking skills you will be encouraged to explore your own ideas and themes developing a sustainable art practice that is both meaningful to you and relevant to the contemporary art world.

  15. City Lit ceramics portfolio
