Learn picture framing and mounting skills for the home or workplace. Using professional framing tools and equipment you'll be taught all the skills you need to work in a busy studio or alternatively how to set up your own small scale practice from home.

Are you interested in prop making for the film, TV, theatre, window display and live event industries? Get to grips with some of the challenges you might encounter as a prop maker, from creatively interpreting a client's brief, working to a budget and meeting deadlines. Learn to problem solve and apply a range of techniques to bring a 3D design concept to fruition, getting a real insight into the prop making industry and its challenges.

For those with previous experience who want to work towards their own goals, or for beginners who want to learn hand-building and throwing processes. We'll also cover glazing and surface decoration.

Have you ever fancied having a go at sculpting in wood? Or perhaps you are experienced at it but would like expert guidance to develop your ideas? This comprehensive course encourages wood carvers of all levels to bring along their ideas and see how they can be developed. You will be taught how to make models of your designs, upscale and transpose these, and use professional carving tools to produce beautiful pieces in wood.

Learn to visualise and model interior spaces and 3D forms with this easy-to-use and intuitive program. It is a perfect addition and complement to our interior and/or garden design courses. The software is very affordable and available for home use on a PC or Mac.

Do you ever dream of building your own individual sculpture practice? This inspiring, year-long course will challeng your thinking and help you identify themes and ideas that interest you; it will encourage you to experiment with all sorts of materials and processes, and build your confidence and capability to develop your own independent sculptural practice.

This exciting and intensive course is a chance to develop key creative skills, methods and thinking in art and design, across 2D, 3D, life drawing and critical studies, to prepare you for entry to our UAL-validated, Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art & Design.



Please note, this course starts on a Wednesday and continues for a further 10 Tuesdays and Wednesdays thereafter. There is a break week during the course (details to be confirned by the course leader).

Whether you have previously attended film or art related courses or simply have an interest in exploring a variety of experimental methods, this course will transform your practice.



With an emphasis on interdisciplinary fields including animation, performance, installation and sound, the course will examine multiple applications within expanded experimental film practice.



Through discussions, workshops, and personal projects, and by utilising a wide range of techniques, participants will gain the knowledge and practical skills necessary to create innovative and challenging artworks.

Year 1 of the City Lit Fine Art course will enable you to refine and build upon your previous experience in Fine Art by exploring approaches to drawing, painting, sculpture, print, digital media and contextual studies, across a series of structured projects in studio and online sessions. As part of a small cohort of like-minded students you will be taught by experienced tutors who are also practicing artists in a range different media.



The course will enable you to develop an overview of media processes relevant to current art practice, introduce ideas and debate relevant to contemporary art, and help you identify your own personal creative responses. Group discussions and tutorials will support the development of your thinking and help you adopt an independent and open-minded approach to your own work. This course can be taken for personal creative development, to prepare you for application to undergraduate or postgraduate Fine Art courses, or to serve as an alternative to the conventional degree route.



Some basic materials will be provided, and you will need to supplement these with specific items; a list is provided in the CLFA course handbook. 10am – 12pm online Zoom sessions on alternate Mondays (15 in total)



10am – 5pm in City Lit studios. On alternate Tuesdays (16 in total)



6pm – 9pm in City Lit digital media suite. On 4 or 5 alternate Tuesday evenings per term (12 in total).
