Our range of part-time, weekend and evening art and design classes are taught by successful artists and practitioners to ensure you get the skills, knowledge and experience you want and deserve. From experimental painting and drawing to contemporary jewellery making, there is sure to be a course for you. Study from 1 day to 2 years, whether you are a complete beginner or a practising artist preparing for an MA. Our courses are designed with you in mind, so you get to spend more time doing what you love. New for 2020 we now offer a creative portfolio of live online courses as well as our face-face studio based teaching.

  1. Artist talk: Keith James Clarke - Reflections on bright-eyed and bushy-tailed architecture

    Keith is a tutor at City Lit and began his professional life working on multi-million-pound developments for an internationally recognised Cambridge practice. He questions the coherence and quality of some domestic refurbishment, by others, which has motivated him, from the mid-80s onwards, to specialise in designing small-scale residential properties. During this talk, he will explain his work practice, focussing on design generators, their relationship with 3D visualisation and how they aid design development and decision-making. Keith will refer to a couple of examples from his portfolio of work and outline his commitment to creating designs with strong architectural and environmental credentials.

  3. Art and creative thinking with Rod Judkins

    Art is fundamentally about communicating ideas. If the idea is strong, the work of art is memorable. This exciting, one-day workshop, led by Rod Judkins (artist, tutor and author of ‘The art of creative thinking’ and ‘Ideas are your only currency’) will explore methods to create ideas and concepts and combine them with the process of making.

  6. Upcycled textile jewellery: plait
    Weekend

    Learn how to hand plait your own colourful bracelets from fabric remnants, ribbons, or that old tee-shirt! Be inspired by this workshop led by textile artist Tanvi Kant who will show you how to repurpose textiles at home into something special to gift to yourself or a loved one. You will experience how acquiring new skills creatively helps you focus to maintain general well-being.
