Strengthen your passion for and enjoyment of dance though the repertoire of Swan Lake.
Danced to Tchaikovsky's beautiful musical score, Swan Lake has been staged by all major ballet companies. Following a short barre warm-up we will explore some of the characters and dance sequences from Act 1 and 2. The learned material can be showcased on day 3 of this course.
Please note this course is for improvers, you should have attended regular ballet classes for at least 2 years and have good knowledge of classical ballet vocabulary.

What is the course about?

If you have always wanted to re-create a staged ballet, then this is your chance to take part in our 3-day intensive workshop. You will learn some of the original repertoire sequences and explore characters. The class will include a short practical warm-up and practice.

What will we cover?

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Explore and recognise some of the characters that appear in the ballet
Learn and demonstrate a sequence of the original repertoire
Use and appreciate the music and its function.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for improvers, you should have attended regular ballet classes for at least 2 years and have good knowledge of classical ballet vocabulary. This workshop will be physical.

In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This is a practical dance course and tutor led. Teaching will include practical class work, discussion, observation and supportive feedback for individual and group awareness.

HEALTH CHECK
You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please wear clothing that does not restrict your movement and allows you to adapt to changes in your body temperature. Long hair must be tied up. Jewellery should be removed at the start of the class and mobile phones switched off. Bring bottled water.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

The teacher will advise on future dance courses such as Classical ballet: improvers, Pointe, Ballet Barre and Floor Barre classes or take a look at our website for other dance courses.

Dilek Taptik

Born in Germany, Dilek started ballet in the Russian Vaganova method. Professional training began in Turkey, Mersin Conservatoire for Dance & Ballet Academy Cologne, Germany, gaining National Dancers Diploma and Teaching qualifications by RAD, RTS, STC, TC, TD. Teachers included Lynn Wallis OBE (Artistic Director RAD), Gisela Peters, D. Wayne, Alex Morris, Valerie Aitken, Libby Farr. She also trained in NY. Dilek performed 'Giselle' (Demi-Soloist) in Turkey State Opera, 'Les Sylphides', 'Pas de Quatre', 'Nutcracker' & Swan Lake Corps in German Opera houses. 2003 she was awarded a scholarship for London Contemporary Dance School 'The Place', CertHE, working with Merce Cunningham, Trisha Brown Company, Siobhan Davies Dance, Richard Alston Dance Company, DV8 and Kerry Nicholls (Ex- rehearsal director Wayne Mc Gregor Dance). She toured in Germany, Dance-film (Roundhouse, London & Cannes Film Festival) & Movie credit along Vanessa Paradise. Dilek was Lead Ballet Tutor at the Arts Educational Schools London & founded www.dtdance.com She is a regular Ballet Tutor at CityLit & at the RAD HQ teaching ADV level & Guest Teacher for IDW London & Barcelona.
