The course is a combination of a ballet technique class followed by an exploration of classical ballet repertoire. Within the first hour students will be warmed up through a class consisting of ballet barre, centre practice and travelling exercises. In the second half of the class we will use some of these movements to explore classical ballet repertoire. Students will get a better understanding how ballet classes are leading into classical ballet choreography.
What will we cover?
Classical Ballet Technique including: Knowledge of ballet vocabulary Strength and flexibility Repertoire: Choreography for ballet Narrative Ballet stories and learning of original sequences. Some ballet gestures may be included.

Demonstrate improved ballet technique Recognise improved strength, flexibility, co-ordination and balance Demonstrate increased stamina and control of movement Perform a set dance sequence/repertoire with greater ease and confidence.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This class is suitable for beginners with enough knowledge in basic classical ballet, up to and including improvers. The course is not suitable for students who have never done ballet before.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Teaching will include practical class work as well as discussion, observation and supportive feedback for individual and group awareness. Through a series of exercises enabling you to work your body in a graceful manner and experience this knowledge in choreography. Student's may want to watch video material of the sequence/sequences taught (youtube and DVD’s)
HEALTH CHECK You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Please wear dance clothing that does not restrict your movement and allows you to adapt to changes in your body temperature. Tights, leotard or clothing that does not restrict movement will allow your tutor to see your work more clearly. The exercises are best undertaken in ballet shoes. Students to tie their hair back if it is long for their own safety and comfort.

Born in Germany, Dilek started ballet in the Russian Vaganova method. Professional training began in Turkey, Mersin Conservatoire for Dance & Ballet Academy Cologne, Germany, gaining National Dancers Diploma and Teaching qualifications by RAD, RTS, STC, TC, TD. Teachers included Lynn Wallis OBE (Artistic Director RAD), Gisela Peters, D. Wayne, Alex Morris, Valerie Aitken, Libby Farr. She also trained in NY. Dilek performed 'Giselle' (Demi-Soloist) in Turkey State Opera, 'Les Sylphides', 'Pas de Quatre', 'Nutcracker' & Swan Lake Corps in German Opera houses. 2003 she was awarded a scholarship for London Contemporary Dance School 'The Place', CertHE, working with Merce Cunningham, Trisha Brown Company, Siobhan Davies Dance, Richard Alston Dance Company, DV8 and Kerry Nicholls (Ex- rehearsal director Wayne Mc Gregor Dance). She toured in Germany, Dance-film (Roundhouse, London & Cannes Film Festival) & Movie credit along Vanessa Paradise. Dilek was Lead Ballet Tutor at the Arts Educational Schools London & founded www.dtdance.com She is a regular Ballet Tutor at CityLit & at the RAD HQ teaching ADV level & Guest Teacher for IDW London & Barcelona.
