What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The course is structured and created for beginners or for those who have previously danced but would like to brush up on their existing skills. You will be taught and shown the steps and then you will practice and repeat.
A beginner’s dance class isn’t just for newcomers. In any beginner’s dance class there will be student’s from all types of backgrounds. We all have different learning techniques and paces. If your first class seems overwhelming and you can’t get it the first time, don’t worry: dance is heavily reliant on repetition so it will happen. We want you to learn and to have fun so just give it your best and keep coming back!
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to: • Follow spoken instructions. • Use numbers to recognise rhythms within the three dances. • Work within groups and pairs safely.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The tutor will explain what steps, techniques and dances will be covered within the class. He will then demonstrate and explain verbally each step and movement. You will practice dancing the steps with a partner and with and without music. There will be no work to complete outside of the course but we do encourage you to practice and put your new skills to the test.
HEALTH CHECK You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
There are no additional costs. We ask our students to dress in comfortable, breathable clothes in order to be at ease when dancing. Please refrain from wearing sling backs, flip-flops or rigid trainers. It is advisable to bring a bottle of water or drink to stay hydrated and cool.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
Continue in beginners where you will continue to develop and progress, working on improving leading and following skills, move up to improvers or try out one of our many other dance classes.
