What is the course about?

If you have reached a point in your image making, where you feel there is something missing, you really want to make your images "pop", then this is the course. You will be guided through a series of image editing techniques used in the industry of beauty and portraiture photography.

What will we cover?

- Skin blemish removal
- Skin retouching to retain texture and characteristics of the face
- Colour grading
- Advanced sharpening
- Resizing and preperation for publication
- Workflow.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Analyse an image and identify the preferred method and tools to remove skin blemishes.
- Select a range of advanced retouching methods and apply to a given image, to retain and enhance skin texture.
- Colour grade skin tones.
- Select and apply advanced sharpening methods.
- Resize and prepare an image for web and social media platforms.
- Work efficiently through editing, retouching, publishing and storage of digital images.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course explores industry level retouching techniques using Photoshop. You should be familiar with image editing tools and the process of opening, editing and saving images.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught within a workshop environment, short demonstrations, practical exercises, tutorials and handouts. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in the photography studio. This course demonstrates digital techniques using Adobe CC software.
The course also uses Google Classroom (an online teaching resource) for you to share comments with your class, download course material and upload images for group crits. See below for the instructions on how to log on.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You may wish to bring a notebook and pen. It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note: PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to.)
