What is the course about?

This course will teach you how to create and manage your own blog using the free web-based tool and start blogging. The course is hands-on and will show you how to use WordPress to build a blog.

Note that this class looks at the process of setting up a blog and in using WordPress as a tool to achieve this. If you would prefer to use WordPress to create a website you may wish to look at the City Lit courses on Building websites with WordPress or Design your own website using WordPress: for visual artists.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

• Creating a blog using
• Personalising your blog by choosing a "Theme"
• Adding "Pages" - web page content and "Posts" - blog entry content to your blog
• Adding a Menu
• Using Categories and Tags - to arrange your content and make it easier to find.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• Add, edit and delete text content to your blog
• Add media content (pictures, video, and sound) to your blog
• Link to other content on the web
• Use WordPress Widgets to add more content
• Maintain and monitor your blog.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have good computing skills and experience of using a web browser on a PC or Mac.

This course is aimed at those new to building a Blog. Students need to be able to access their email, be confident with accessing pictures and files on their computers and a competent user of both the internet and email. You should also be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information and discuss work with your tutor.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Presentations and demonstrations will be used to guide you through the process of building a Blog using WordPress. You will be set Homework each week.
You will be provided with practical handouts that can be used for future reference.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no additional costs. You will need an email account that you can access during the lesson to activate your account.
