What is the course about?

The course aims to give students basic knowledge of Portuguese, enabling them to understand how the language works and to start communicating in Portuguese in various situations. This course, together with module 2 and module 3 covers year one and two (Portuguese beginners and Portuguese 2 lower). Expect more homework than in other courses.

What will we cover?

Topics: stress, sports and healthy living, tourism and holidays, family, immigration
Grammar: revision of the past imperfect, prepositions, the conditional, the future, talk about things done recently, introduction to the passive voice, expressions of time
The students will have the opportunity to develop their oral, listening comprehension, reading and writing skills.

What will I achieve?

- talk about tourism and planning a trip

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have completed Brazilian Portuguese rapidamente: module 2 or have an equivalent knowledge of the language.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

The course is based on the tutor's own materials but you might want to purchase a book for home study.

Summer: Brazilian Portuguese 2 lower: revision

September: Brazilian Portuguese 2 upper module 1.

Denise Delf

Denise Suzzara Delf started teaching Italian and English as a foreign language in Brazil. She moved to the UK in 1993 where she has been living ever since. As she wanted to continue her career in teaching, she completed the TEFL and Modern Languages course at Westminster College in 1994. She then started teaching Portuguese as a foreign language in adult education colleges. Denise has also done some work for Westminster Council as a language assistant in secondary and primary schools and has prepared private students for GCSE and A-level Portuguese. Denise has 26 years’ teaching experience in the UK and currently teaches Portuguese courses from beginners to level 4 at the City Lit.
