If you have already completed a year of bridge at City Lit, or have a similar level of experience, improve your game by mastering two level opening bids and begin to explore the concept of slam bidding.


What is the course about?

Improve your bridge game by mastering two level opening bids and begin to explore the concept of slam bidding.

What will we cover?

We will learn how to open strong balanced and unbalanced hands at the two level as well as weak twos in
diamonds, hearts and spades. There will also be an introduction to slam bidding and Blackwood.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Bid and respond to a 2NT opening bid
• Know what is required for a weak two opener in diamonds, hearts and spades
• Learn how to respond to, and counter, a weak two opening bid
• Define the meaning of a 2C opening bid and know the negative and positive responses
• Identify the responses to a Blackwood enquiry.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course follows on from Bridge 1: Module 3, and is suitable for students who have completed at least 60 hours of
tuition and/or are confident with one level opening bids, overcalls and Stayman. If you wish to speak to the tutor
prior to enrolling please contact the Humanities department.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Teaching methods include prepared hands to play; Q & A; quizzes and recapitulation. All handouts will be provided
including worksheets for optional homework practice.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You need only bring note-taking materials.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

The follow-on course, Bridge 2: module 2 - develop your defence, starts in January 2020.
