This weekend course will introduce you to the basic calligraphy skills that will enable you to develop beautiful writing. You will be able to try out the historic Gothic script either as a beginner, or as an improver looking to increase your portfolio of writing styles. All tools and materials included.

What is the course about?

During this course you will learn how to use basic calligraphy tools and techniques to create the letterforms of the
gothic script. You will begin with a series of writing exercises that will help you to progress towards creating the letterforms of the gothic alphabet. There will be time to practice and experiment with this form and you will be encouraged to develop your own creative response to this historic letterform.

What will we cover?

- Calligraphy and letter design
- Essential calligraphy tools and materials
- Gothic alphabet
- Gothic letterforms in modern lettering.


More experienced learners:
- Exploring the different styles of gothic and working towards a personal style.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Use a dip pen and ink in your work
- Complete a series of exercises to refine your letterforms
- Identify variations of gothic script
- Write your own gothic alphabet.

More experienced learners:
- Experiment with Gothic letterforms to develop a personal creative style.
- Create a finished piece of creative calligraphy


More experienced learners:
- Exploring the different styles of gothic and working towards a personal style


More experienced learners:
- Experiment with Gothic letterforms to develop a personal creative style.
- Create a label, signage or tattoo design.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is designed for beginners or improvers who would like to brush up their gothic script. You should be able
to follow simple written and verbal instructions. You should also be able to use a ruler to rule up guidelines for writing.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught through group teaching and one-to-one tuition. No additional work outside class is necessary.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

All equipment for this course is provided. Please bring a notebook and a pen for taking notes.
