What is the course about?

Develop your fluency in this course taught in Chinese (Mandarin), with the emphasis on speaking and listening. Suitable if you have studied Mandarin for about 3 and a half years and have a good command of the language.

What will we cover?

Topics: directions, personal interest, health and traditional food, likes and dislikes

Grammar: a revision of grammar points, sentence patterns, character writing and pronunciation

The course will focus on the transfer of the language from 'Pinyin' to Chinese characters and character writing.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

  • Follow directions
  • Pass on a message
  • Talk about your hobbies: the books you like to read, the style clothes you like, etc.
  • Talk about the food you like and dislike
  • Recognise 120 new characters
  • Use different sentence patterns within spoken and written forms

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is suitable if you have completed level 3 lower: module 1 or have an equivalent intermediate level of Chinese. A working knowledge of 400-500 characters would be an advantage.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.

Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

This course combines the tutor's own materials with content from Discover China Student's Book 2.

Please check with your teacher before purchasing, as some tutors may or may not use this book in their lessons.
