What is the course about?
This course is designed to improve students' command of speaking and listening, so most of the teaching and practice will be based on speaking, prepared presentations and listening to the news.
However, students will also learn new vocabulary, sentence structures and grammar points You will also expand your knowledge of Chinese culture and current affairs.
What will we cover?
Development of vocabulary
Enhancement of fluency
Consolidation of advanced grammatical structures
A variety of topics which reflect the interests of the group (this will be discussed and negotiated in the first session).

By the end of this course you should be able to...
use advanced grammatical structures
know a greater range of vocabulary in connection with topics
express yourself with enhanced accuracy and fluency
be able to read a greater number of Chinese characters.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is an advanced course. It is an ideal follow-up for students who have previously completed level 4 or who have acquired an equivalent knowledge of the language.
You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities. It is also essential that you have knowledge of more complex grammar terminology.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The course is based on the communicative approach:
active student participation
emphasis on speaking and listening skills
pair and group work
use of realia, pictures and authentic material
use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate.
