An exciting, new, supportive and productive workshop environment where students can share work and get individual tutorial help, have peer support and engage in guided group discussions related to movie-making.

What is the course about?

This is a workshop environment where students can work on their own project and receive some individual tutorial input. We will share information on technical and conceptual aspects of film in general and Premiere Pro CC and FCPX in particular. It is possible to show your work to other students and get their feed-back, either in smaller sub-groups, or in the larger forum setting.

What will we cover?

1. Working on your own project (with individual tutorial and peer feed-back)
2. Identifying areas and strategies for improvement
3. Peer presentations and critical feed-back
4. Workshop common issues in PRE and FCPX.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

1. Advance with your own project
2. identify at least one aspect of your own project that you’d like to improve
3. identify at least one strategy to implement this improvement
4. develop your ability to engage with other people’s work (formulate a critical response).

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is for people who are working on their own projects but would like some support from a specialist in the field of editing/post/production. You must have some experience in editing using Premiere Pro CC or FCPX (or any other college supported software).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

There will be some individual tutorial support and some demonstrations. There may be forum sessions were we will look at each other’s work to discuss different aspects of editing/ filmmaking in general and the presented work in particular. Asking questions and commenting is encouraged at all times. Handbooks, manuals and worksheets are available.
Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Digital arts, Graphics & Illustration and Photography.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You need to bring you work on removable storage or on your own laptop.
You might also want to consider purchasing other books related to the subject of film making and editing. We will also provide you with some hand-outs free of charge and you can make use of books in the library.
Please note that a portable hard drive/USB stick if PC formatted can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to. CDs/DVDs are available.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

By the end of the course you should be comfortable to do more involved editing and work with your own material. You can develop your skills further in and VG259 Digital video editing: stage 3,VG153 Experimental film making or our most advanced Tips and Tricks class.

City Lit offer a range of courses in video and DSLR film making, editing, sound, animated SFX with After Effects, digital and stop motion 2D and 3D Animation and an array of other visual arts courses to enhance your film making practice.

It was rewarding and valuable input, and refreshed both my knowledge and my enthusiasm for film-making.

Fantastic course - there were about 7 of us, with completely different projects and needs and I got so much out of sharing it and getting feedback, and seeing others' projects. You'll get the most out of this course by taking a rough cut or 'final' video with you. If you make videos, and you're starting out, you know how much work goes into it - nothing so valuable as objective and constructive feedback to get the best film possible.
